What is your oldest possession? My parents bought me this beautiful dress from a designer in Cape Town called Balu for my second birthday and I love it so much I’ve kept it and I hope to one day give to my own daughter, if I’m lucky enough. Have you had any jobs that you wish had lasted even longer? Every job is an exciting and invigorating experience that in the moment you never want to end! What film in your opinion would be a terrible candidate for a reboot or remake? Unashamedly Dirty Dancing is one of my all…

What is the most pleasant noise or sound to fall sleep too? I went to Mexico earlier this year and stayed in a beach hut with a hay roof, so could hear the sounds of waves all night. I probably got the best sleep of my life there. Had you been born 100 years earlier and not had your mortality compromised by poor medical understanding and practices, what job do you think you would have pursued? Well, I don’t imagine a world where I’d be born a non-creative. So, I’d probably open a large house made up of creatives from…

Inside Look: Maisie Richardson-Sellers

We spoke to actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers about her role as Laurie in the Trafalgar Studios production of 3 Women. Consistently there seems to be this interplay between generations, parents don’t understand and once you get older eventually the kids don’t. Even as society take efforts to be more understanding and open minded, this cyclical contradictory thinking remains. What do you think makes this generational thinking so fixed? I think that a lot of misunderstanding between generations has to do with the fact that societal expectations, trends and needs evolve so quickly, and therefore generations can easily feel alienated from those…

What is a remake you enjoy more than the original? That’s difficult. I’m too loyal to original productions. That being said, the remake of The Jungle Book is fire. They smashed it! Who is/ was you favourite teacher? Tadeusz Bradecki. Everything he said was gold. I have a whole notebook of his quotes! Who would you love to work with? Ava DuVernay. Selma, 13th… her work is incredibly powerful. I would also love to work with the living legend that is Sidney Poitier. Powerhouse. I wouldn’t stop asking him questions! What posters were on your wall as a teenager? I…

What was the last thing you did for the first time? I had a flotation tank experience. It’s a large pod of salt water where you float in silence, in darkness. It was 95% pure bliss and serenity. But 5% was panic. It was an almost psychedelic form of meditation for me. Where I had to face myself. I will definitely do it again. I want to reduce the 5% of anxiety to zero. But maybe that’s the lesson it was teaching me: Perfection is useless. What non-English language cinema do you find the most interesting, or entertaining? I have…

What is the most interesting or obscure object you’ve found? When I was about 12, I was on holiday in Wales and I took myself for walk along the beach. I found a rock that looked very alien. It was transparent yet multicoloured and looked solid in texture. I put my hands on it and my fingers nearly went though it- turns out it was a jelly fish. It was absolutely massive twice the size of my head. I was lucky not to be stung. When did you accurately predict something? Trump being elected as President. I had the worst…

What would you like to learn? I would love to learn Spanish. I have the duo-lingo app on my phone which makes me feel great and that I am nearly fluent – the reality being far from that! I am certain I need lessons from a real human being to improve – which I will endeavour to do this year! What was your favourite music experience/ moment? I travel when I can to experience music in different settings. My absolute favourite being ‘Meadows In The Mountains’ Festival in the Bulgarian mountains. It is a relatively new and small festival located in…
