Aaron Pierre

What is a remake you enjoy more than the original?
That’s difficult. I’m too loyal to original productions. That being said, the remake of The Jungle Book is fire. They smashed it!

Sweater & blazer by JIGSAW.

Who is/ was you favourite teacher?
Tadeusz Bradecki. Everything he said was gold. I have a whole notebook of his quotes!

Who would you love to work with?
Ava DuVernay. Selma, 13th… her work is incredibly powerful. I would also love to work with the living legend that is Sidney Poitier. Powerhouse. I wouldn’t stop asking him questions!

What posters were on your wall as a teenager?
I had (and still have) a poster of Muhammad Ali on my wall. It reads, “Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them; a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill, and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.” The Greatest.

One of your upcoming projects, Krypton, delves into past events on Superman’s home planet as seen through the eyes of his grandfather. What non-superhero fictional character would you love to see the prequel treatment for? (From the original author/ playwright/ screenwriter/ director)
The Alchemist. I have no idea what the prequel to the novel would entail but Paulo Coelho is a genius, so it would be brilliance. If you haven’t read The Alchemist, give it a go. You won’t regret it!

If you could have a more detailed life account of anyone in your own family tree, who would you pick?
My Grandad. I’d love that. Although we never met, from the stories I’ve listened to over the years I imagine us being best friends.

Aaron Pierre can be seen in Othello from July 20 – October 13 at Shakespeare’s Globe, and Krypton later this year on E4 (UK).
